Swift Warrior

Year: 800 BC
Category: Ancient
Vessel Type: Warship
Scale: 1/8" = 1 '
Overall Length: 60 feet

An early Greek warship of dugout construction arranged with one level of oars on an outrigger bar. This early war craft dates to about 800 B.C. when early Greek peoples were just getting to the point where they needed to defend their early city-states. The design on the front has been scrimshawed into the highly polished ivory and is a typical early Greek stylized sunburst. This design would develop on ships to become the "eye" design that later Greek watercraft sported as a bow emblem or design.
