A Barbary Coast Pirate Xebec of the late 1700's. These ships raided European commerce from the Mediterranean to the Irish Sea for hundreds of years.

The United States was the first nation to wage war with the pirate empires. In the early 1800's, squadrons of American warships destroyed pirate strongholds on the north African coast.

Soon thereafter Britain and other European nations joined in to attack the pirate strongholds and to defeat the pirates at sea. Within a few years these Mediterranean based Arab pirates were history.
